Pastor’s Message

Thank you for visiting Calvary Chapel Junction’s website today! As you can see, we are a fellowship of believers that holds to the K.I.S.S. philosophy of ministry. “Keep It Simple, Saints!” We live in an increasingly challenging and changing society. As a nation, we are witnessing the destructive and often deadly effects of illegal drug use in every area of our culture. Abortion is still a major blight upon our society. The ever present threat of terrorism looms over our heads. Many questions & concerns persist about the future of our economy & environment. We are politically divided. Job security sounds more like an oxymoron than a reality. In the church today, we are bombarded with a plethora of “new and improved” ways of “doing church” and an increasing presence of false teachings & quick fix philosophies.

Although this can all seem so overwhelming, isn’t it so good to know in this ever-changing, increasingly hectic world that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever? (Heb 13:8) Here at CCGJ, Jesus is the Rock upon which we build our lives—how reassuring in this unstable “doom and gloom” and “what if?” mind-set oriented society. Jesus is still our shelter when the enemy is on the attack. He still calms our hearts and minds during the most traumatic storms that come our way (Matt 8:26). Jesus is still the Good Shepherd who feeds His flock and gathers the lambs in His arm and carries us close to His heart and gently leads those who are with young (Isaiah 40:11). He still preaches the gospel to the poor, heals the broken hearted, proclaims liberty to the captives, opens the eyes of the blind and sets at liberty those who are oppressed by the enemy (Luke 4:18). Those who have experienced the life changing power of Jesus Christ within our hearts and minds know these things to be true.

As Calvary Chapel founder and Pastor Chuck Smith often teaches, “The Holy Spirit of God takes the Word of God and transforms the people of God.” I believe that with all my heart. God created us for fellowship and He wants to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us. He provided everything we need for life and godliness and fellowship with Him and each other. It is all wrapped up in Jesus Christ, who willingly left His glorious position with God the Father and came down into this sin-filled world with the sole purpose of being the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jesus went to the cross as the Perfect Sacrifice and as the Perfect Substitute for all our sins. He paid the only acceptable price to redeem our sinful souls; His spotless blood. And so, because Jesus died for us, rose from the grave three days later, is alive forevermore, is seated at the right hand of the Father and has poured out His Holy Spirit upon us, He alone can give us all that we need—everlasting, never ending life. He alone can give us power and victory, meaning and purpose for everyday life! He alone can deliver us from our past sins, failures and disappointments and even from the pain and suffering others may have caused us. He alone has prepared a beautiful and glorious future for His bride, the church.

Here at Calvary Chapel Grand Junction, “It’s all about Jesus”! Our desire is for you to know Him as your Lord and Savior and then to grow in your relationship with Him & one another. The more we grow, the more we realize just how awesome He really is. He has done everything to rescue us and to bring us into His family. By His grace He has saved us and by His strength He upholds us, and because of His unconditional love for us we humble ourselves before His throne and worship Him, for He alone is worthy to receive glory, honor, and praise.

As we grow in Christ, we begin to see the world around us a little more the way Jesus sees it—as lost sheep without the Chief Shepherd; as injured, unhealthy people who need the Great Physician; as sinners who need the love and forgiveness of the Savior…

And so, we invite you to come and grow with us, as we grow with Jesus! “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us…” (Heb. 12:1-2.)

May the Lord bless you as you continually walk with Him. In His love and mine,

Pastor Jeff
